Rotate or flip an image

Turn a sideways photo upright, spin it in 90° steps, or mirror it. Each button acts on the image as you see it now, and JPEGs are saved without re-compression when nothing needs re-drawing. Nothing is uploaded.

Fixing a photo that's on its side

A photo that looks upright in one app and sideways in another usually has the right pixels but a confused orientation tag. Phone cameras store the image the way the sensor read it and attach a note saying which way is up; some programs read the note, others ignore it. When you rotate here, the correction is written into the pixels themselves, so the file looks the same everywhere afterward — the ambiguity is gone, not just hidden.

Each button acts on what you see

Rotation and flipping don't commute — flipping then rotating gives a different result than rotating then flipping. That trips up a lot of tools. Here, every button operates on the image in its current state on screen, the way you'd expect from a photo app, so a sequence of clicks always does the obvious thing. The state line under the toolbar shows the net result, and reset returns to the original at any point.

When the save is lossless

Rotating a JPEG by 90° or 180°, or flipping it, can in principle be done without any quality loss, because those operations just rearrange existing blocks of the image. This tool re-encodes through the browser, which is simpler and works for every format, but does mean a JPEG is very slightly re-compressed. For most uses that's invisible. PNG and WebP output is lossless either way. If you're rotating the same JPEG repeatedly and stacking that loss, do it in one session from the original rather than re-opening the saved copy each time.

Working through a batch

Drop several images and each gets its own tab in the strip below the toolbar. Rotate them individually, then download them all at once. A dot marks the ones you've changed, so nothing gets missed. As with everything here, the images stay on your device — there's no server involved.
